Description
Three performers, separated in space but linked through a live motion-tracking system, step into an environment where their movement is turned into data in real time.
We built a real-time motion capture pipeline that translates that data into a layered visual language: responsive graphics, shifting light, and projection layers the dancers pass through, disappear into, and cut back out of. They don’t just perform inside the system, they drive it. Their bodies become set, lighting, and character at once.
Anti-Body sits in the tension between flesh and signal: control and surrender, isolation and connection, individuality and swarm. It asks what happens when the body becomes an interface, when augmentation stops being a concept and becomes a working system on stage.
Choreography and visuals were developed together in 2021: movement shaping image, image reshaping movement, in a tight feedback loop. The work is scored by Hannah Peel (Mercury Prize–nominated, 2021) and music producer Kincaid.
Premiered in the UK in October 2021 (DanceEast, Oxford Playhouse). Returned for three sold-out shows at Sadler’s Wells (Lilian Baylis Studio) in October 2022. Shown at Colors Festival in Stuttgart (July 2022). Filmed and licensed by ARTE.
